RSS Graffiti Walk Through

1. To Install the App on your personal profile
1. Type “RSS Graffiti” in Facebook’s search bar and it will take you to the RSS Graffiti landing page. Alternatively point your browser to http://facebook.com/RSS.Graffiti
1. You are able to click on any of the tabs to the left to gather any information you need.
2. Click on “Go to App” at the top of the screen
3. It will then take you to a screen that states that Authorization is required. Click the blue button in the middle of the screen that says “Click here to authorize RSS Graffiti”
4. There will be a list of permissions that pop up, go to the bottom of the screen and click “Allow”
5. Finally it will take you to the apps Home Page and it should say “Configured” underneath your name in green.
6. RSS Graffiti is now Installed   
2.  To Install a Feed
1. From the App Home Screen under the feeds tab, click on the “+ Add feed” button on the right.
1. Note: A lot of people have issues trying to add the feed URL where it says “add feed here” because it looks like a text box. It is not a text box so make sure you click on the button to the right.
2. Basics Tab
1. Enter your feed URL (YOU MUST PUT HTTP://domain.com). You can preview how it will look by clicking the preview link.
1. Note: If the URL you are using is coming from a blog site only (i.e. engadget) you can copy and paste the main URL. But if it is coming from the blog section of a website then you need the FEED URL. We cannot use a website URL as the feed URL. You can use this site to verify if you have a feed URL http://validator.w3.org/feed/
2. The Source Name is the name that appears under the post on your wall.
3. The Source URL is the URL the Source Name will take a user to when clicked on.
4. Post Style is how you want your posts to appear on your wall. Descriptions of each posting style are listed underneath each option.
3. Filter Tab
1. Cut-off date/time
1. Posts will only show up after the date listed. to change click the Change Date Link
2. You can either select to only post stories from now on or “Select the Next Time to Publish”
1. Note: If you check “Select Next Time to Publish” It will give you a list of all the postings on that blog along with the date and time. Whichever date you pick it will publish that story and all the stories that are more recent than it. But it will only post as often as you set under the Schedule tab which we will get to shortly
2. Eligibility age will let you choose how long you want the story to be published for on the host site before it is posted on your wall.
3. The Other Filtering Options section is used as advanced options for Twitter, which we will get to shortly.
4. Transform Tab
1. This is where you can change the way the message part of the post is displayed on your wall. Essentially what you want said as a status update above the attached article.

1. Update Frequency
1. As soon as possible means about every 10-15 minutes
2. Posts per cycle
1. This states how many posts RSS Graffiti will publish each cycle it pulls from your feed. So if you put 1 post per cycle but the site you are connected to posts 4 articles it will only post the first of the four and then continue posting in the order of the precedence you set below. 
3. Precedence Tab
1. Continuity
1. This means that if you set the posts per cycle to 1, but the site you are feeding from posts 4 articles between your cycles, RSS Graffiti will continue pulling the posts in order of when they were posted.
2. Freshness
1. This means that if you set the posts per cycle to 1, but the site you are feeding from posts 4 articles between your cycles, RSS Graffiti will skip the 3 earlier posts and post the newest one.
3. Note: These schedule options really benefit a blogger for example, that writes all his articles one day and posts them to his blog on one day but wants the posts to be spread out through the week.

1. This is for when you have RSS Graffiti installed on a Fan Page and you want your posts to be posted under the profile of the fan page or you can choose to post under the profile of the Fan Page Admin (The picture changes as well)
2. Service accounts
1. These are designed for Twitter and Bit.ly Accounts and will be covered in the Twitter section.
7. Once you are complete click save above the preview screen and you are good to go. 
3. To Install a Twitter Feed

Note: This is a semi complicated process due to changes Twitter has made recently as of 6/2011. Once you know it though it is very simple. YOU MUST HAVE A TWITTER ACCOUNT SET UP FIRST

1. Set Up Twitter Account and Feed
1. First go into the RSS Graffiti app within Facebook and make sure you are on the home page (http://apps.facebook.com/rssgraffiti).
2. Next click Application Settings in the top left of the page
3. Click on Add Account
4. Enter your account information and click submit
5. You now have a Twitter account connected to Rss Graffiti. BUT YOU ARE NOT DONE YET.
6. To the left, underneath application setting, click the name of the profile you are adding your Twitter feed to.
7. Go down and click the “Add Feed” button like you did when you set up your RSS feed.
8. To get your Twitter feed URL you will need to enter this URL address and substitute the username at the end with your twitter username. This is due

2. Note: You must add your Twitter Account to RSS Graffiti in Account Settings for a Twitter feed to work.
9. Click Preview to make sure it worked and now you can customize how you want your tweets to look.

1. Exclude RT’s (Retweets)
1. Any retweets you tweet on twitter will not be posted on your wall if you check the box
2. Exclude @replies
1. This is when someone directly replies to one of your tweets. Check this box and those will not be posted on your wall.
3. Include #tags (Hash Tags)
1. You use #tags to emphasize a specific theme or idea in your tweets. If you enter a specific hash tag in this box then RSS Graffiti will ONLYpublish tweets with that hash tag.
4. Exclude #tags (Hash Tags)
1. If you add a hash tag here it will publish all of your tweets EXCEPT for the ones that have that particular hash tag

1. Strip Twitter Username
1. If you check this box it will take your twitter name out of the Facebook post and will look like you posted directly on Facebook. Leave it unchecked and your twitter account name will show up right after.
2. Attach Pictures
1. Check this box if you want to have the pictures you attach to your tweets show up in the body of the post. The picture sites they support are listed there.
3. Attach Links
1. Will allow you to create attachments from the links in your tweets.

1. Same as a normal RSS feed

1. This sets the number of total posts among all your feeds you wished to be posted at any given time on your wall.
