Symptom

In the log messages of your feed you see the following warning:

     "Failed to shorten URL. Bit.ly returned error {code}: '{message}'."

Cause

RSSGraffiti tried to use the bitly to shorten your URL, but something went wrong. Bitly did not return a short URL but instead returned an error response indicated by the error code and message included in this Log entry.

Resolution

The specific story will get published anyway, without including a short URL.

For the future stories to include a short URL read the included bitly message so that you can proceed by fixing the actual underlying issue.

Common Issues associated with bitly  warnings.

The usage limit has been reached. There are limitations in the usage of the bitly API, which you seem to have exceeded. Your bitly URLs will resume once your limits allows it. If this is a very often incident, you may want to consider creating more bitly accounts (this is free) and associate for instance a different bitly account with each feed, so that you do not exceed your quota. These usage limits are applicable per bitly account.

The bitly account in use is invalid. You have probably changed your bitly_key, disabled your account, or just provided invalid bitly credentials to RSSGraffiti. Simply update your bitly settings on RSSGraffiti to resolve this issue.
